What is Diablo?

To understand why people love this game series so much, we must look at the scale of the Diablo series. Diablo is a world set in Sanctuary, where evil demons and devil-like spawns have invaded the world, and it is up to the hero (player character) to defeat demons and bring peace to an otherwise hell-like landscape.

In terms of gameplay, Diablo has always focused its efforts on the popular genre known as an “ARPG,” which means Action Role Playing Game. Essentially, it’s a top-down camera-angled game with waves of monsters and deep dungeons to scour while getting epic loot to take down massive bosses. Differences

Diablo II deals with gameplay in a slower, more static way while keeping the idea of having hordes of enemies. The slower gameplay does not mean easy; let’s not confuse the two; however, the slower nature allows for more planned attacks in an otherwise overwhelming situation, which is perfect for the tactical player.

Diablo IV is, as far as the beta was concerned, a lot faster than Diablo II’s more static gameplay, which means that the overwhelming amount of enemies can lead to many newer and veteran players who prefer the slower style may get overwhelmed. The overwhelming feeling is partially countered by the fact that many abilities in Diablo IV are simple to use and easy to understand, allowing for more screen vision and less wondering what button to press.

Live vs. Offline

Diablo IV has pushed itself into the MMO-ARPG Genre by creating ways to have easy access to parties and meet new players online. Diablo II: Resurrected is a more curated single-player experience, lending to its predecessor, Diablo II.

If you prefer more single-player experiences Diablo II: Resurrected will feel more like the game for you; that’s not to say that Diablo IV is only online, but it is generally better when played with more players online.

Diablo Items and Gear

Good news for veterans of Diablo II, as most gear and items will seem familiar in Diablo IV. Diablo IV will bring skulls and gems into its gear which feels familiar to Diablo II and Diablo II: Resurrected gear sets.

The other similarity of Diablo 4 and Diablo 2 is the quality of gear and uniques. Many players will remember the +2 to fireballs or +3 to Whirlwind affixes, which will make a comeback in Diablo IV’s gear system, lending a great way to improve skills and make unique/powerful builds.
